The Parliamentary Constituency of North East Somerset is a large mixed rural and urban seat.
In the North is the Bristol and Bath commuting belt of Saltford and Keynsham, the latter of which is the largest town in the north of the constituency.
In the West is the picturesque Chew Valley, made up of villages such as Chew Magna, Chew Stoke, East and West Harptree and Bishop Sutton, whilst further East from the Chew Valley, there are the villages of Pensford, Farmborough, Timsbury, Temple Cloud and Clutton.
Situated in the South, in the area of the old Somerset coalfields, are the towns of Midsomer Norton and Radstock and the villages of Paulton and Peasedown St. John. The towns and villages in this area of the constituency are particularly close knit, brought together by the shared history of hard work and strong sense of community.
In the East, in the area previously known as Bathavon, there are a mixture of large and small villages including Wellow, Hinton Charterhouse, Freshford, Claverton and Bathampton, whilst to the North of the River Avon lie the large parishes of Batheaston and Bathford, together with many small villages including Northstoke, Kelston, Langridge, Tadwick, Woolley and Swainswick, each with their own special identity.
The constituency boundaries are similar to those pre-1997 when the constituency was known as Wansdyke and Jack Aspinwall served as the Conservative MP.
Jacob Rees-Mogg won the seat for the Conservatives from Labour in 2010 and again in 2015 and 2017. He was re-elected in December 2019 with 50.4% of the vote and a majority of 14,729.
